Visualize the dahlia varieties you want to include in your own bouquets!
We’ve compiled a whole bunch of photos for you to see the dahlia bouquets that we’ve created from our dahlia collection over the past seasons!
Which dahlias are preferred for bouquets?
Most of the dahlias we grow and sell are suitable for bouquets. The bulk of the varieties we grow are in the 3-4″ size range and are in the ball and decorative forms. We love to have some itty bitty pompons and mini ball and decorative blooms in our quiver. They are under 3″ and as tiny as 1.5″… they make lovely accents in bouquets! The larger blooms over 6″ don’t work as well for us in bouquets and often have a shorter vase life – but can be spectacular for event arrangements.
What fillers flowers and greens do we use in our bouquets?
There are so many filler flowers and greens that work well! Sometimes its even possible to forage local flora for fillers like red osier dogwood and raspberry stems. Over the years we’ve used strawflowers, borage, bupleurum, agrostemma, honeywort, lemon bee balm, feverfew, gem style marigolds, hydrangeas, smoke bush, sedum, eucalyptus, cosmos, zinnias, mojito mint, dill, statice, poppy seed heads, dusty miller, carrot greens, sweet pea flowers and vines… and dahlia buds and greens… and more! You’ll have fun finding what fits for your style(s)!
Do we sell dahlia bouquets?
Yes! Limited availability starts in mid July, ramps up in August and usually winds up near the end of September. The dahlia bouquet season can go until first frost if we get a very mild, sunny and dry September/October in the Terrace, BC, Canada area.
- We make bouquets available regularly during the season at Sherwood Mountain Brewhouse and The Red Raven Art Gallery in Terrace (follow us on Instagram or Facebook to find out when they are available).
- We offer subscriptions with pick up @ the farm (limited spots available). Subscriptions start approximately early August and end mid-September.
- We offer bouquets on demand – send us a note to request bouquets for pick up @ the farm. Let us know the day and time you need it ready for pick up…
Do we sell buckets of blooms for DIY bouquets?
Yes! Farmer’s choice buckets of blooms can be purchased usually starting around mid-August thru to mid-September – sometimes a bit earlier and sometimes a bit later depending on the weather we get.
- Buckets of blooms usually have 30 + or – stems depending on the size of the blooms.
